Thankful Thursday

To all of my fellow American friends out there: Happy Thanksgiving! I hate to pick and choose, but here are the top three things that deserve heaps of thanks.

  1. Finding loveDCIM100GOPRO

This man is truly exceptional. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Many thanks go to this fella for pushing me to get better and better every day.

2. CreativityPeach Wall-0721

I’ve been so lucky to befriend some amazing, talented, and creative people (you know who you are!). Thank you all for inspiring me to live a more creative life.

3. Bitter sweet endings and new beginnings Jessie At Urbanity-2064

You know the saying as one door closes, another opens? This couldn’t be more true! Thank you to all the people that taught me everything I know. You were the force that drove me to follow my heart in a new career direction. Saying goodbye to Urbanity was hard, but ultimately it made me a happier person today.

What are you thankful for? Let’s hear about it in the comments!

Thankful Thursday

It’s that time of year again! In leu of this thankful holiday, here ten things I’m truly loving in my life right now.

10. Free Blue Bottle coffee at my new office!

9. A Beautiful Mess’ recipe for Sour Cream Pumpkin Muffins (my true basic bitch weakness).

8. Related to #10, all the adorable puppies running around Runway Incubator. So much cuteness, its a wonder I can get any work done!

7. Getting back into shape. Started my running routine last weekend and I’m loving it!

6. It’s finally cool enough to layer in the city. Time for chunky scarves, comfy sweaters, thick knit tights, and cozy coats galore!

5. Some good things come from sad places. I like to keep things light on the blog, so I’ll spare the details. I will say that I’m happy I get to hang out with close friends, meet new people, go to new places, and get to know myself all over again.

4. My new ink by Zeph Fishlyn is so gorgeous it brings a tear to my eye.

3. Hydration! (Hey, don’t underestimate the power of a little H2O.)

2. My new nightly skin regime that’s left my face baby soft and blemish free. Once a week, I endure a painful Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, cleanse with my new favorite face wash Burts Bees Sensitive Face Wash, and followed up by rubbing a couple drops of Palmers Skin Therapy Oil (the makers of the best Coco Butter lotion of all time, in my humble opinion).

1. The time spent away from my electronic devices. Enjoying a warm meal, getting some much needed errands done, and conversation that’s uninterrupted by a computer or smart phone screen is sheer bliss.

What are you thankful for? Hope you all have a very lovely Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I’d like to dedicate this post to all of my readers and followers. I’m so thankful that I have you; the reason I write and continue to think up something new everyday. You all have made Poor Jessie Ann possible and I certainly don’t know where this little blog of mine would be without you. Have a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving, everyone!

Thankful Thursday

This Thankful Thursday, I would like to give thanks for winter layers!

I know, I know. You’re all probably sick of hearing about how much I LOVE to pile on my cozy sweaters and jackets, but I know you San Francisco dwellers will agree that dressing in layers is a necessity. Living in this unpredictable climate has made me a master at layered fashion. Here are a few of my favorite layered looks and tips to fashionably maximize your comfort in these chilly winter months.

I love the look of mixed textures and that cape look is definitely making a comeback. Lately, fashion forward ladies and gentlemen have been snapped rocking their oversized coats in this cape-like fashion. To achieve the perfect, effortlessly-chic girl about town vibe, throw on a chunky knit sweater and casually drape your wool coat over your shoulders.

Cozy cool minus the fur.

Fur (preferably faux or vintage) has always had a luxurious appeal. A fur vest can add an unexpected, funky element to an otherwise basic outfit. As with my everyday wear, I like to mix feminine and masculine elements. Wear your favorite fur piece over a frilly dress. Extra cool points for topping it all off with a military jacket.

Scarves are the easiest way to warm up and the simplest addition of color, texture, and patterns. I have acquired quite the scarf collection, myself. You can’t go wrong with a knit infinity scarf or one of printed silk. Dare to be bold? Try wrapping up in not one but two scarves!
I hope you’re thankful for these handy layering tips! Stay warm out there!

Thankful Thursday

The holidays always bring about a sense of panic in my world. So, in attempt to bring about some calm and peace in my life, allow me to introduce Thankful Thursdays. I always find that whatever amount of pressure or stress I find myself under, counting my blessings puts everything in perspective. No matter what trouble I encounter (in my financial or personal life) looking at all the beauty in my life makes all these stressors feel a little less important.

So, this Thursday I am thankful for evenings spent in the great indoors. After the everyday hustle and bustle, nothing beats a cozy pair of socks, a warm nook, and a good cup of tea. Turn sweater sleeves into warm socks - reuse the sleeves from old sweaters that were used in the sweater quilt.Dress cozy and stay under a thick blanket while watching a good movie.Hand-knit socks. - OH MY GOSH, HELLO (from top to bottom) Evane, Merlin, Peter, Genevieve, and BENNIEBOY . . . why did i just call him that?

Don’t fairy lights make bedrooms seem a little more cozier? I have a set wrapped around my white, cast iron headboard. I love that warm light it gives to my otherwise harshly lit room. It’s such an easy and whimsical way to make your room a little brighter.

Great idea put pictures of passed away loved ones on wall to share in your christmas

I made the switch from coffee to tea recently and I am so glad I did. Boiling the kettle and making a cup for myself after a long day has become a new, wonderful ritual. I’m looking into brewing a homemade batch, but in the mean time I’m loving a good cup of chai with soy or Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Rooibos.
